Article Evaluation Process

The Journal of Turkish Republic Historical Studies is a scholarly, peer-reviewed, and open-access journal that evaluates only original research related to the science of history and the history of the Republic of Turkey. The article evaluation process is conducted based on academic impartiality, transparency, ethical principles, and scientific quality. The journal aims to publish only original, high-quality studies that contribute to the field.
1. Application Process
Authors upload their articles through the journal's online application system. Articles must be prepared in accordance with the journal's spelling rules and APA 7th edition before submission.

Author(s) are expected to complete and upload the following documents to the system during the application process:
• Copyright Transfer Form
• Ethics Committee Approval (if required)
• Authorship Contribution Statement Form
After the application is completed, the editorial team conducts a preliminary check to ensure formatting and file integrity.
Estimated Time: Application approval and registration are typically completed within 1–3 business days.
2. Preliminary Evaluation Phase
Articles submitted for publication are subject to a preliminary evaluation by the Editor or Field Editor. The following criteria are considered during this phase:
• The article's relevance to the journal's purpose and scope,
• Compliance with the writing guidelines and formal requirements,
• The article's level of originality and plagiarism rate,
• Scientific methodological integrity,
• Language, academic style, and use of sources.
Articles deemed suitable are forwarded to the peer-review process; any work deemed incomplete or inappropriate is returned to the author for necessary corrections.
Estimated Time: The preliminary evaluation process takes approximately 1–2 weeks.
3. Peer Review
The journal operates on the principle of double-blind peer review. In this system, the identities of both the author and the reviewers are kept confidential.
At least two expert reviewers in the relevant field are selected based on the article's topic. Additional opinions from a third reviewer may be sought if necessary. The reviewers evaluate the article based on the following criteria:
• Originality of the study and scientific contribution,
• Adequacy of the literature review,
• Methodological consistency,
• Validity and interpretation of the findings,
• Scientific basis of the results and rigor in the use of sources.
Reviewer reports are submitted to the editor with one of the following recommendations: "Accept," "Minor Correction," "Major Correction," or "Rejection."

If corrections are requested, the author(s) must make the necessary changes based on the recommendations and resubmit the revised article within the specified timeframe. The revised article will be re-directed to the same reviewer(s) if necessary.
Estimated Time: The review process is completed within an average of 4–6 weeks.
4. Editorial Board Decision
The final decision following the reviewer reviews is made by the editors. The decision process considers the reviewer reports, the quality of the revisions, and the scientific contribution of the article.
Final decision types:
• Acceptance,
• Acceptance after minor correction,
• Re-evaluation after major correction,
• Rejection.
Estimated Time: The final decision process typically takes 1–2 weeks.

5. Pre-Publication Editorial Review
Accepted articles undergo final editorial review. During this stage, the article's language and format are verified to ensure it complies with the journal's standards. References, citation format (APA 7), tables, and figures are also checked.
The revised version is submitted for final author approval. Following approval, the article is prepared for publication.

Estimated Time: The pre-publication editing process is completed within 1–2 weeks.

6. Ethical Principles and Conflict of Interest
Ethical principles are given great importance during the article evaluation process. Authors must declare that the data used in their studies were obtained in accordance with ethical standards. It is mandatory that no names of individuals or institutions be used without permission.
Reviewers are obligated to reject the review in the event of a potential conflict of interest.

7. Open Access Policy and DOI Assignment
The Journal of Historical Research of the Republic of Turkey provides free access to all articles published under its open access policy.
Each article is assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) ​​number after publication. The DOI number ensures that articles are permanently archived and recognizable in scientific citation systems.
Estimated Time: The DOI assignment and online access process is completed within one week.
8. Publication Process
The publication process for accepted articles proceeds through the following steps:
1. Typesetting and layout,
2. Language and formatting,
3. Author approval,
4. DOI assignment and online access,
5. Publication.
Estimated Time: The publication process is completed within 2–3 weeks from the date of acceptance.
